Fellow Program

The Department of Pediatrics at UCSF is committed to excellence in research, education and the clinical care of infants, children, and young adults. The Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine shares this commitment. Our ACGME-approved pediatric pulmonary training program combines the rich diversity of San Francisco’s patient population with the extraordinary clinical, educational, and research resources of the University of California, San Francisco.

The Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program at UCSF is committed to the unique, individual career plans and training needs of each trainee. We strive to create an exciting, dynamic training program for each fellow. The Pulmonary Fellowship Training Program at UCSF offers three years of clinical and research training in pulmonary medicine for graduates of accredited general pediatrics residency programs. We strive to provide the fellow with a comprehensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of pediatric breathing disorders and to make the fellow familiar with the unique needs of children with chronic lung diseases.

The overall goal of the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program at UCSF is to train outstanding pediatric pulmonologists and future leaders in pediatric pulmonary medicine, whether by virtue of their lasting contributions to improving or providing clinical care to patients, improving public health and policy, educating new generations of pediatric pulmonary specialists, or expanding medical knowledge as clinical or laboratory research scientists. Our graduates are fully prepared as competent clinicians, teachers, supervisors, policy makers and researchers. Their educational environment is devoted simultaneously to scholarly accomplishment, patient safety and fellow well-being. Faculty encourage collegial inquiry and scholarship, acting as mentors and participating in organized clinical discussions, teaching rounds, departmental conferences, and journal clubs. Pediatric pulmonary physicians work with the Program Director to assure that clinical, educational and research experiences are conducive to excellent fellowship training.

Trainees can draw on the expertise of world-renowned investigators within the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and in other UCSF departments and research units. Applicants are encouraged to access the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program website, the Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCSF to explore the breath and depth of research opportunities.
