Clinical training for the fellows occurs in the following venues:
Outpatient Clinic: Fellows will gain experience in the evaluation, differential diagnosis, and management of infants, children, and adolescents with the full spectrum of pulmonary conditions. During fellowship, fellows will develop their own patient panel while caring for patients in the general pulmonary clinic and cystic fibrosis clinic (1 half day per week). They will learn how to field phone calls regarding these patients, determine the urgency by phone, perform appropriate physical examination, order and interpret studies, and initiate and manage treatments.
Inpatient Service: Fellows will learn how to manage acutely ill patients with pulmonary conditions, including those with life threatening complications. They will learn how to field pages regarding these patients, answer consults from other services, and care for patients in a variety of areas including acute care, intensive care units, and emergency department.
Procedures: Fellows will become competent in bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing and interpretation, exercise testing, and sleep study interpretation.
