About Us
The Division of Medical Genetics is dedicated to providing exceptional clinical diagnostic services, medical management, genetic counseling, resources and referrals for pediatric and adult patients who have or are at risk for a genetic condition or birth defect.
The division is experienced in serving a highly varied patient population and has a skilled team of physicians and genetic counselors who strive to understand and meet the unique needs of each patient and family.
To maintain the highest standards in clinical care, the division recognizes the integral roles of diverse genetics health care professionals (including clinical and laboratory medical geneticists, PhD geneticists, genetic counselors, and nurse geneticists) and supports the training activities and clinical and basic scientific research endeavors of its faculty and staff.
By training clinically skilled and compassionate genetics health care professionals and competent and insightful researchers, the Division of Medical Genetics strives to ensure unsurpassed quality in clinical genetics services for future generations of patients and their families.

Roberta Keller, MD MSc
Interim Chief of Medical Genetics
Vice Chair for Clinical and Translational Research
Roberta Keller, MD, is a professor of clinical pediatrics, interim division chief of Medical Genetics, and vice chair for clinical and translational research in the Department of Pediatrics.
Keller serves as medical director of the Intensive Care Nursery ECMO Program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and leads the nursery's rapid whole genome sequencing program. She also directs neonatal services for the Fetal Treatment Center and is a founding member of the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension service.
A neonatologist specializing in critically ill newborns with congenital lung and heart disease, Keller's research investigates developmental lung and pulmonary vascular disease, with a focus on identifying early markers of disease severity and long-term respiratory and neurodevelopmental outcomes.
Keller is director of membership and a member of the Executive Council for the Society for Pediatric Research, and is a past president of the Western Society for Pediatric Research. She earned her medical degree and completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at UCSF.
