Danielle Sharp, MD, MS

Dr. Danielle Perez Sharp is a neonatologist at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. She cares for critically ill neonates in both Level III and Level IV NICUs, with clinical expertise in neonatal neurocritical care, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and advanced respiratory support.

Her research focuses on understanding how social and structural determinants of health influence neonatal outcomes, with a particular emphasis on hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and other high-risk neonatal conditions. She is interested in identifying drivers of disparities in care delivery and outcomes and developing patient-centered approaches to improve care for vulnerable infants and families.

Dr. Sharp completed her pediatric residency at UCSF and her neonatology fellowship at Stanford University, where she also received advanced training in epidemiology and clinical research. Her work has been supported by the American Pediatric Society, and she has contributed to research in neonatal neuromonitoring, congenital heart disease, and health equity.

In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr. Sharp is actively involved in medical education and mentorship, with a focus on supporting trainees from diverse backgrounds and advancing equitable care in neonatology.
