Samhita Jain, MD

Biography

Dr. Samhita P Jain is a first-year clinical fellow in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at UCSF. She attended Ramnivas Ruia Junior College in India where she received a Bachelors degree in Science before attending medical school at Topiwala National Medical College. She completed her pediatric residency at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in Elmhurst, New York.

After completing Medical School in India, she got the opportunity to work in the Neurovascular Lab at Westchester Medical Center with Dr Ballabh. This experience ignited her interest in fetal neurodevelopment, specifically in the interneuron subpopulation development and disruption in preterm neonates. The wide exposure she received in the NICU during her residency made her passionate about pursuing a career in Neonatology. In the future, while honing her skills in clinical Neonatology, she also aspires to be involved in basic science and translational studies studying the molecular and cellular basis of neurobehavioral disorders as well as develop therapeutic modalities to combat these disorders in neonates.
