Meet our NICN Team
Our multidisciplinary team creates a collaborative environment to care for our patients. Together, specialists from neonatology, neurology, epileptology, neuroradiology, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, nutrition and social services provide tailored and coordinated care, which translates to optimal support for our patients and timely communication with families.

NICN Nurses
A cohort of bedside nurses have been specially trained in the care of newborns with neurological conditions. They provide 24/7 bedside care. They are specially trained to recognize signs and symptoms of neurologic dysfunction, and are able to institute neuromonitoring and neurotherapies. There are two NICN nurses on staff per shift.
Neonatologists
Neonatologists are pediatricians with extensive, sub-specialized training in care of the newborn. The neonatologist oversees all clinical care, bringing in other sub-specialists as needed.

Pediatric and Neonatal Neurologists
Pediatric and Neonatal Neurologists are pediatricians with sub-specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders and brain injuries in newborns. They perform neurological examinations, review MRI images and results of neuromonitoring, to assess the baby’s neurologic condition and provide direction for further care and rehabilitation, if necessary.

- Hannah Glass, FRCP, MA, MD
- Yvonne Wu, MD
Pediatric Epileptologists
Pediatric Epileptologists are specially trained in diagnosing seizure disorders and epilepsies of the newborn and child. Their training makes them the experts in reading and interpreting EEGs in the newborn.
- Roberta Cilio, MD, PhD
- Joseph E. Sullivan, MD
Pediatric Neuroradiologists
Pediatric Neuroradiologists are specialists trained to interpret high resolution, state-of-the-art imaging, such as MRIs, to diagnose and treat neurological disorders in infants and children.
- Jim Barkovich, MD
Neuro-Interventional Radiologists
Neuro-inteventional radiologists are sub-specialists who can treat arteriovenous malformations that present in the newborn period.
- Christopher Dowd, MD
Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs)
NNPs are nurses with advanced training and certification in the care of the newborn. With the neonatologist, the NNP leads and oversees the development of the daily plan of care for each baby.
The NICN also utilizes respiratory/occupational/physical therapists, registered dietitians, lactation consultants, social workers, palliative care providers, and discharge coordinators.
