About Us

The mission of the UCSF Division of Pediatric Rheumatology is to provide expert quality care to children with rheumatic disorders and unspecified multi-system inflammatory conditions, to train future pediatric rheumatologists for careers in academic medicine, and to advance knowledge through the conduct of research. We offer daily out-patient clinic appointments at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco and Oakland, where patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team in the subspecialty clinics. The clinical program is highly integrated with a rigorous fellowship training program and a multi-faceted research program.

Emily von Scheven, MD

Dr. von Scheven is a pediatric rheumatologist with a special interest in the long-term outcomes of children with chronic illness. Her long-term goal is to improve the care and outcomes of children with rheumatic diseases. Dr. von Scheven’s research is focused on defining and improving outcomes in pediatric-onset Lupus, evaluating and treating childhood osteoporosis and addressing the transition needs of patients as they transition from pediatric to adult providers.
