Research

The Pediatric Heart Center at UCSF is actively involved in improving the care and outcomes of children with congenital heart disease through our various research programs. Our faculty engages in all levels of research including clinical trials, basic research, and translational research.

Basic research, also known as molecular research, studies heart development and function to determine the causes of congenital and acquired cardiac disease.

Translational research applies the results of basic research to patient care.

Clinical trials test the safety and effectiveness of new drugs, devices, and other treatments.
