Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Fellowship

The division is strongly committed to training the next generation of academic physician-investigators. As evidence of this commitment, a substantial proportion of our recent trainees transition from their training at UCSF to faculty appointments at academic institutions, including leadership positions in pediatric gastroenterology around the United States.

Trainees at UCSF, one of the world’s leading centers for biomedical research, can draw on the expertise of renowned investigators within the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and in other UCSF departments and research units. Applicants are also encouraged to access the Program in Biological Sciences (PIBS), Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program and Advanced Training in Clinical Research to explore the breadth and depth of this strong institutional commitment to basic and translational investigation in human diseases.

We are particularly pleased to have received recent accreditation from the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a training site for the certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in liver transplantation and liver disease, making us one of only six approved sites for this CAQ in the United States. This allows our fellows to focus specifically on advanced training in liver disease as part of their training.
