About Us
The Division of Medical Genetics is dedicated to providing exceptional clinical diagnostic services, medical management, genetic counseling, resources and referrals for pediatric and adult patients who have or are at risk for a genetic condition or birth defect.
The division is experienced in serving a highly varied patient population and has a skilled team of physicians and genetic counselors who strive to understand and meet the unique needs of each patient and family.
To maintain the highest standards in clinical care, the division recognizes the integral roles of diverse genetics health care professionals (including clinical and laboratory medical geneticists, PhD geneticists, genetic counselors, and nurse geneticists) and supports the training activities and clinical and basic scientific research endeavors of its faculty and staff.
By training clinically skilled and compassionate genetics health care professionals and competent and insightful researchers, the Division of Medical Genetics strives to ensure unsurpassed quality in clinical genetics services for future generations of patients and their families.
Division Leadership
Soghra Jougheh Doust, MD, MSc
Interim Chief of Medical Genetics
Dr. Doust is an Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF and Medical Director of the Adult Genetics Program. A board-certified medical geneticist with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience, she holds fellowships with both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (FCCMG). Dr. Doust has made significant contributions to genetics policy and training through her service on multiple university committees and national boards in Canada, and she remains a dedicated educator in the field.
