Shafkat Anwar, MD
He is an internationally recognized healthcare innovation leader, practicing at leading academic medical centers. He is known for integrating advanced imaging and 3D+ (advanced visualization and 3D printing) technologies into clinical practice. As Medical Director of UCSF’s Center for Advanced 3D+ Technologies, he has spearheaded the expansion of 3D modeling and printing services across multiple hospital campuses. He co-founded and scaled this Center into a cross-functional enterprise impacting patient care, education, and research.
Dr. Anwar has developed and led cardiac MRI and 3D printing programs at two world-class academic institutions—Washington University in St. Louis and University of California San Francisco. His work has influenced care models for high-risk patients and driven institutional collaborations across departments and campuses.
He previously served as the Senior Vice President of Medical Innovations at Zeda, Inc. (formerly Printerprezz), where he provided clinical and strategic insight into emerging health technologies and advised the company through its early growth.
With a background in cardiology and cardiac imaging, Dr. Anwar has driven innovations in imaging workflows, interdisciplinary collaboration, and personalized surgical planning. He has raised over $4.5 million in philanthropic and institutional support, delivered numerous invited national and international invited lectures, and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He is recognized among his peers as a thought-leader and innovator, earning the distinction of Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and full Professor at UCSF.
