General Pediatrics Fellow

The UCSF Division of General Pediatrics offers a 2-year fellowship in clinical research to prepare general pediatricians to become faculty scientists conducting high impact research in general pediatrics. Graduates of our program pursue careers in scientific investigation of child health outcomes and health services. At program completion, fellows will be proficient in common methodologies in clinical research, health services, and/or computational or digital health and will have completed a mentored research project providing practical training in research methods and administration. 

About the Program

Our program provides in-depth experience and training in content and methodologies related to child health and health services. We connect fellows with a wide range of mentorship and collaboration available at UCSF.  

Our core faculty are dedicated to training the next generation of investigators in our fields and have specific expertise in health equity, digital health, nutrition, global health, and preventive care as well as a wide range of other topics in clinical and health services research.  

How to Apply

Requirements

  • Applicants to this program must be board eligible/board certified in general pediatrics and eligible for medical licensure in California. This position includes one day per week of clinical activities, including oversight and training of residents and students, in primary and acute care settings or newborn nursery. 

  • Applications for fellowship beginning in July 2025 should be submitted through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

  • Successful candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications: authorship as first or middle author of one or more peer-reviewed manuscripts, demonstrated experience in data analysis, or other demonstrated research experience.

Curriculum 

The UCSF General Pediatrics Fellowship Program is a 2-year, non-ACGME training program that aims to prepare general pediatricians for careers in clinical and health services research. The curriculum and program expectations include the following:   

  • Mentored, scholarly activities that develop the fellow’s skills in research methodology, grant writing and manuscript submission 

  • Clinical work two half-days per week aligned with scholarly interests 

  • Structured mentorship from program faculty and individual mentoring team  

  • Every other week General Pediatrics Works-in-Progress sessions  

  • Quarterly department-wide Fellows’ College   

  • Opportunities for resident and student teaching and/or mentorship
